What was discussed in class was basically we want to resign the movie, Apocalypto (2006).
we are going to use the original story line since this project for us is re-concepting the visuals.
The new design will be set in Sci_fi world but futuristic. There is no high_ technology. it will be still in native world. There will be two different tribes, one Mayan and one Mentawai or a sort of African tribe.
As we discussed, the Mayans will be under-water world species, a little bit of different kind from human anatomy, attacking the land tribes and use them as slaves or sacrifice. in other words, they physically have anatomical features in a way..related to the water world. Their culture is in Mayan culture. For example, armors, accessories, weapons and structures under water. moreover, they are living in a big town and organized in big hierarchy. They have the king and loyal family but still non-educated in native life. It will be good to have a shaman and chief priest to show the native life.
On the other side, the land group will be in a small community, literally like amazon jungle tribes. However, we have to create a different costumes and culture from the original movies in a way.
This group has to be look innocent and kind. they may have some technology or fantasy looking culture. They do not have magical power but the environmental elements would be. Try to research for amazon or African natives. they have a chief and patriarch group with elders. The chief does not need to be a man. it could be a woman. whatever you come up with an idea, just idea-sketch it and post up.
those two groups may have rides using the animals; like underwater people--> sea animals & land people--> land animals. It doesn't need to be exactly from real world. Feel free to make interesting looking ride spices.
For the environment, I think it would be better to make the paintings as a key-frame, which means we can put some main figures or some actions in the environments to explain the story. But! we don't have to make close-up shots because that is too much about keys.
